Today, we are going to speak about a new chemical that is being added to many cities’ water. Most housewives know not to mix chlorine with ammonia as this is how you make nerve gas.
Over the past 80 years, cities have known not to mix ammonia with chlorine. But suddenly, it’s a safe thing to do! Gee! I didn’t know chemistry changed that much. Cities are now adding ammonia into the chlorinated water to create chloramines. Note, the word chloramines is a plural word, not a singular. They are actually making mono-chloramines, which the city will profess attempting to make it. But they will also be making di-chloramines and tri-chloramines as well. The later two are definitely highly toxic and the cities under no circumstances will ever admit that they are making them.
If you watched some of my previous shows, you would know that to remove chlorine out of the water, one only needs to use a carbon filter. But now, when they are making chloramines, this becomes an extremely difficult item to remove. While it still requires a carbon filter, now you actually have to get into super large sized granule carbon filters and carbon block filters. Possibly extra KDF to remove most of the chloramines.
The shocking fact about chloramines is they don’t work 1/200th as well as chlorine. And it costs the city 60 times more money to do it! As you can see, this is extremely illogical and if you pay attention to your monthly water bill, you will notice that every three month, they will tell you that they are going back to the chlorine system for a while in order to clean up their pipes. Here, they have to use high volumes of chlorine to clean up all the algae and whatever other problems that are growing in the pipes.
So, now you have to contend with extra, extra chlorine when they are not using chloramines and when they are using the chloramines, you are going to have to use extra, extra carbon filters just to get most of the chloramines out. To compound these issues, 68% of the cities are also adding fluoride into the drinking water and unfortunately, carbon filters are not designed to remove this industrial waste, which is deliberately added to the drinking water. So now, you have to really spend some real money to get yourself a fluoride removal system.
Most fluoride removal systems are small and only take partial amount of fluoride out and also they only last a couple months, therefore, the replacement costs becomes highly costly.
Because of this problem, I have designed fluoride removal systems that will effectively remove fluoride down to non-detectable levels, which are large, but efficient and do not require replacement but once every 7-10 years.

You’ve said a mouthful here. Chloramine causes skin, digestive and/or respiratory symptoms in some percent of the population, and in some cases is life threatening. I’m not being dramatic here. I live in VT and our water district switched to chloramine 4 years ago. It’s the only one to have done so in VT to date. I co-founded People Concerned About Chloramine (PCAC) here and we have been working in the state legislature to get chloramine banned in VT. Approx. 300 people have reported disgestive, respiratory, and/or skin symptoms to PCAC.
Chloramine.org is the website of a citizens group in the San Francisco Bay area, Citizens Concerned About Choramine (CCAC), and they have taken 500+ reports from people with the same symptoms we are seeing here. There’s a group in PA fighting to keep chloramine going into their water: Chloramineinfocenter.net. And we have our own website: vce.org/chloramine. You can watch videos of citizens reporting symptoms to member of the EPA and CDC, who decided it was all in our minds.
The manager of my water district told me that in order to get chloramine out of the water the water must “sit for at LEAST 10 minutes in a LOT of activated carbon, then it must pass through a reverse osmosis membrane in order to remove the ammonia part of the molecule”. I won’t use a water filter because #1, even with this, it doesn’t remove all the chloramine and because chloramine is such a crappy disinfectant, colonies of pathogens will grow in the filter media.
The World Health Organization says about monochloramine (the particular species of chloramine going into tap water), “Monochloramine is about 2000 and 100 000 times less effective than free chlorine for the inactivation of E.coli and rotaviruses respectively.” W.H.O. Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality Vol.2, 1996, Chapter 16
One last thing. Between CCAC and PCAC, we have heard from many many people who have to use water from public chloraminated water supplies from 30 states and 3 countries. All have the same symptoms.
Thank you very much for your information. I want to add a few comments to your posting.
First of all, the way they make chloramines is by adding ammonia into the chlorinated water. They DO NOT just make mono-chloramines. This is all PR. What they are really making is chloramine(s), note the plural form of the word. They actually make mono-, di-, tri-, chloramines and the later two are seriously toxic and carcinogenic and under no circumstances will the city ever admit making them. However, you can go to La Motte Lab equipment and buy a testing kit to test for di-chloramines, which is relatively cheap to detect and I’m sure they might have a tri-chloramine detection kit too, which might cost a bit more.
Reverse Osmosis water is one of the deadest water on the planet. It’s extremely acidic. Any pH METER will prove that the water is 5.5 to 6.4 pH and very expansive RO water systems will get as low as 5.0 pH. RO water also induces black fungal growth. This is why after the water is perfectly clean and stored in the reservoire, they still need another carbon block at the other end to clean out the water and prevent the black fungus from showing up in the glass. So, RO water even if you add back minerals or salts to the water while you may be able to cancel the pH, you will not be able to cancel that bad frequency that induces black fungus.
So, the ideal scene is get a fluoride, chlorine, chloramines removal system that can take it down to non-detectable levels. The 2nd best choice to such a system will be a distiller which is 100% stainless steel and has a glass container to receive this water. Then, you need to add 1/4 teaspoon of Celtic sea salt or any greenish / gray color salt. This will add back the minerals to the acidic distilled water.
Sincerely,
Winston
Again, thank you very much for your information. I don’t know if you know this, but when the cities put chloramines into the water, they have to have a disclaimer and tell people who are on kidney dialysis machines to absolutely not use this chloraminated water as it will kill them! But it’s ok for the rest of us since we’re not having the water run through a kidney machine, if you’re foolish enough to believe it. And unfortunately, thousands of Americans are foolish enough to believe it.
